Lesson 2 ~ 있어요 And 없어요

안냥하세요!
Today we are going to learn how to say "I have .... "    and     " I do not have ...."
This lesson is quite simple and it will also teach you how to ask for things.
You might be thinking ~ Oh my... I can hardly speak Korean and shes already doing this?! *_*
Well ~ I asure you now that this lesson is really simple.
You will also pick up a few key words as well....
Ok... Ready?

I have ~ 있어요.Ok ~ To say I have ~ You prounce it Like this ~~ E-so-yo. 
But just to show you how it is actually written from hangul ~ I will show you this too. ( This is what you would find in a dictionairy) Eessoyo. Or ~~ ee-sso-yo.
The double s comes from ㅆ ~ The double consonant ( durrr...)
if you look back at one of my first posts ~ You can see that ㅅ can be given a sharp sound if we use ㅆ
( ** Just to let you know ~ If you are using the Korean input on your computer ~ press the Shift button and T to make double ㅅ ~   T = ㅅ)

Lets look at a few words to help us with this sentence of : I have....

몰 = Water [Mul]
진구 = Friend [chingu]
시간 = Time [si~gan] (* Si sort of has a shi sound to it)
김지 = Kimchi [Kim-chi] (** Kimchi is a korean food. Note that it is spelt with a ㄱguh sound but it is pronounced like K)
아이스크림= Icecream [a-i-seu-keu-rim] (Prounced pretty much the same as Icecream ~ Simple stuff)
Now it is really simple from here onwards...Do you know how us English/American people say ~ I have water.
Well the Korean order is ~ water I have.
So all we have to do ( Look at the list above to look at some useful words) is stick an object infront of Essoyo and Look what you have ~ A sentence! YEY WOO!
( Oh  I love the word WOO becuase it is Kevin Woo from UKISS ~~ Thehe  * Please note that I happen to be writing this on a Wednesday ~ Therefore it is Woo Wednesday. You know because its ermm... Kevin Woo?)
ANYWAYS...

Sample sentences몰있어요... [ Mul - ee-so-yo] = I have water / They have water / water exists / There is water
진구있어요... [ Chingu-ee-so-yo] = I have a friend / Friend Exists / They are friends
What do you think the sentence for time would be?
.....
시간있어요.... [sigan-ee-so-yo] = I have time / There is time / they have time
and last but not least ~~  
김지있어요... [Kimchi-ee-so-yo] = I have Kimchi / They have kimchi / There is Kimchi

Hangon a minute *-* These sentences also mean something else too!
If i raise the tone of my voice as I say the sentence and stick a ? on the end...
They all become questions...
(e.g  볼있어요? Do you have Water?)
Haha ~ If your feeling cheeky then you can say : 돈있어요? [don-ee-so-yo?] Do you have money?

I dont have... 없어요It is the exact same as I have except that you use:  없어요 [up-so-yo]
again you would find in a dictionairy something like this [oop-sso-yo]
I will give you a few sample sentences but ~ It is pretty self explanitory ~ If you have any questions about this topic ~ Then leave a comment and I will explain as well as I can ^-^

몰없어요... [ Mul-up-so-yo] = I dont have water / water does not exsist / They dont have water
진구없어요... [Chingu-up-so-yo] = I dont have friends / Friends dont exsist / They are not friends
시간없어요... [shigan-up-so-yo] = I dont have time / They dont have time / Time does not exsist
김지없어요... [Kimchi-up-so-yo] = I dont have Kimchi / kimchi does not exsist .... etc.

WOW I have wrote loads today. :)
Note that when using the I dont have ~ You cant make it into a question.


haha well.. for those that want to know what kimchi is... Here you go XD

Lesson 1 - Vocabulary...

Basics:
1) 안녕하세요! [an-yong-ha-se-yo] = This is the formal way of saying Hello in Korean. You can use this in situations where you are talking to someone who you have just met, or someone you have to respect (e.g your teachers, Your boss, People who are older than you.)

2) 안녕! [an-yong!] This is the informal way of saying hello ~ It literally means "Hi!"
You can use this with people who you are more familiar with (like your friends) and people who you are close with...
3) 안녕히 계세요 [an-yong-he gye-se-yo]  = Goodbye. You will say this when you are the person who is leaving.
안녕히 가세요 [an-yong-he ga-se-yo]  = Goodbye. You will say this when you are the person who is staying...
Scenario ~~You are at work with you Boss, and you are leaving the office :
You: 안녕히 계세요 !
Boss: 안녕히 가세요 !
4) 어떻게 지내세요? [otto-kay-jinae-sayo?] = How are you?
  ** Note this is one of the many different ways that you can ask "How are you?" If you already know a different one - thats ok because there is many different ways :) 
5)   잘지내요 [jal-jinae-yo] = I'm fine thanks.
    ** Again, please note there is many different ways that you can reply with... T_T ~~ That makes it harder to learn ~~ HAHA
6)저는 ___ 입니다.  [Chonun___imnida] = Mu name is _____
Again there is a few different ways you can say this.... (Another way of saying my name is: jay-iru-muh ____ imnida.....  )
7)   여보세요? [Yo-bo-se-yo?] = Hello ( on the phone)
8) 네. [ne] = Yes
9) 아니요. [aniyo] = No
10) 감사합니다.  [Gam-sa-ham-nida] = Thank you!
       ** note: Gam is kind of pronounced like a kam sound -- (kind of a mix between the 2) But the way it is written in hangul -- it starts with a Guh sound ^-^
11) 미안합니다.  [mian-ham-nida] = I am sorry!
     The very very formal way of saying I am sorry is: joe-song-hamnida!

Please note that all the romanized words I have given you are different to other examples -- but they still sound the same ~~ Do not worry ^-^

Next lesson we will learn some more vocabulary because In the next lesson after that ~ we are going to learn how to say " I have something" and "I Dont have something" We then can change these sentences into questions (e.g Do you have water?)
Therefore next lesson we are going to have to learn some vocabulary to understand what we are saying (or in other cases asking for...)

Also remember to practise Hangul Alphabet ~~ And in a couple of lessons time ~~ we can learn How to read hangul... (but first you have to know some words HAHA)

Korean Alpahabet

The first step of learning Korean is being able to pronounce the Alphabet...
The way of writing Korean is very similar to English. The alphabet is made up of Vowels and Consonants.
When You write Korean, the Consonants always go before the Vowel.... 
Also, when I will show you the Vowels ~ I will pair them with the Consonant O because this consonant has no sound quality...
Ok Ready? :O

Vowels ( Paired with the consonant ㅇ) :
아 = Ah
야 = Yah
어 = Uh
여 = Yuh
오 = Oh
요 = Yoh
우 = Ooh ( As in You)
유 = You
으 = Euh
이 = Ee
(If you are struggling with this ~ Then you can search how to pronounce the Korean Alphabet on Youtube)

Now I am going to show you the Consonants:

ㄱ = guh
ㄴ= nuh
ㄷ = duh
ㄹ= Luh/Ruh ( Like a rluh sound...)
ㅁ= muh
ㅂ=  Buh
ㅅ= Suh
ㅇ= Ng ( Read bottom for explanation)
ㅈ= Juh
ㅊ= Chu
ㅋ= Kuh
ㅌ= Tuh
ㅍ= Puh
ㅎ= Huh

ㅇ by itself makes a Ng sound (racist?! WTF) Haha
But when it is paired with a vowel ~ It becomes a silent one.... Shhhhh...... :P

Complex vowels: 
(again Paired with the Silent Consonant O )
Some of these Complex vowels will sound the same.... Don't worry ~ Not even Korean people can tell the difference ^^ )
애 = eh
에 = eh
얘 = Yeh
녜 = Yeh
의 = Euee (Eu + ee)
외 = weh
와 = wah
왜 = weh
위 = wee
워 = wuh
웨 = weh

Double Consonants: 
These are a few consonants that are "doubled up" to make a sharper sound than the original sound (when the consonant was just by itself)

ㄲ = Gg
ㄸ = Dd
ㅃ = Bb
ㅆ = Ss
ㅉ = Jj

Remember to practice these vowels and consonants daily because it will help you to remember them. If you are struggling ~~ Use Youtube to help you hear the sounds.. Or maybe there is a decent website out there with sound on it XD

Well Hello there.... anyonghaseyo! ^-^
If you have decided that you want to learn Korean then... Well done you XD
You may not know, but many people speak Korean ~~ and if you are planning to go to Korea ~ Then I guess learning a little Korean is compulsory....
Anyways... Korean is very easy to learn, and you will be able to know the Korean alphabet over a course of a few days..
After that, you will be able to grasp the main writing scheme of Hangul (Korean)
Learning a new language requires a lot of patience & confidence. So be prepared to study! Haha XD
If people tell you that it is impossible to self teach a language ~ Its not... because many people have done it ^-^
